INT. SCROOGE’S COUNTING HOUSE – DAY
EBENEZER SCROOGE, an elderly and miserly businessman, sits at his desk, counting coins. His clerk, BOB CRATCHIT, works diligently nearby.
SCROOGE
(Grunting)
Another day, another penny.
CRATCHIT
(Shivering)
It’s a cold one, sir.
SCROOGE
Cold? I’m freezing! Why don’t you get a fire going?
CRATCHIT
I’m not allowed to, sir.
SCROOGE
Nonsense! Get a fire going this instant! And make it a small one. Don’t waste my coal.
CRATCHIT
Yes, sir.
SCROOGE
(To himself)
Bah! Humbug! Christmas is a humbug. A waste of time and money.
NEPHEW FRED enters.
FRED
Merry Christmas, Uncle!
SCROOGE
Merry Christmas? What nonsense is this?
FRED
It’s a time for joy and giving, Uncle.

FRED

MARLEY

SCROOGE
